Brad and Braden LOVE "The Walking Dead" series, so I decided to take a one day detour on our way home, to surprise them with visiting places that the series had been shot. It took us into the back woods of Georgia. I had done some research, and had found a map on Google that we used to do some adventuring on our own. I will post the map at the bottom of this post. We found it very easy to follow. Our first stop took us to the train tracks that they walked to Terminus on. In the same town, Senoia, Georgia, we also got to see the town of Alexandria. It was all still put together like a complete show set. From what we understand, the town as a whole agreed to have certain rules while filming. They surrounded the homes with the large metal barriers. They couldn't have their lights on at certain times, they had to keep strict hours, and they had to maintain their homes a certain way. I'm not sure of any royalties or anything extra that the town got. One thing they did get, is a whole lot of tourists! Unfortunately, when we were there, it was a Sunday, and many of the shops were closed. They had pretty decent touristy type places to visit. We could tell that the set had done a lot for the town's economy.

The kids had a blast acting like they were zombies. After exploring the town for a bit, we decided to head over to where Merle got killed. This was private property, so we were respectful of that. I know that I wouldn't like for people to constantly be driving past my house or walking on my property. We only stopped for a quick peek and a few pictures. There were many other people doing the same thing. We had the best time exploring and trying to find each place!
The next stop was to the hospital that Rick woke up in. This was a little harder to find, as we are unfamiliar to the area. When we eventually found it, we were not disappointed. It looked EXACTLY like we thought it would. It was decrepit, creepy, and in complete disrepair. The kids acted like zombies in front of this building, as well.
When we made our way to Atlanta, we had to stop for a picture on the iconic bridge, where Rick rode his horse out of town. NUMEROUS people were doing this and everyone was getting selfies. It was quite fun to watch.
It helped that we went on a Sunday, because I was able to get some really good pictures without any traffic and people in them! Next up on our Sunday drive, was Rick's house. Again, many of the places we visited are private property, so we continued to be respectful. Overall, we had a blast visiting the sites, and we would like to do it again once the Walking Dead is done filming, so we could visit more spots.
XOXO...Becky
